What is “Nvshu”?

“Nvshu”, the sole women’s language system in the world, originates from the symbols and rune words of Taoism in South China and in popular in Shangjiangwei Town, Jiangyong County, <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 />Yongzhou City, Hunan. There are about 1000 characters in the language system.

Objective

In order to implement the Scientific Outlook on Development, carry forward the women’s culture of Hunan, promote the harmonious development of female college students’ qualities, give prominence to the characteristics of women’s university, and keep exploring and promoting the value and vitality of “Nvshu”, “Nvshu” (Women’s Language System) Culture Institute was approved and established in March 2013.

Current Status

At present, there are 10 members on and off the campus in this institute including 4 professors and 3 associate professors. It centers on the research of “Nvshu” culture as well as the culture in Hunan. It is also advantageous in the survey, data collection and research due to the background of Hunan Women’s University and the essence of the women’s culture in Hunan endowed by “Nvshu”. Moreover, the institute has established extensive contacts with related institutes at home and abroad to conduct academic exchanges and social activities.
