A Delegation from Western Sydney University Pays a Visit to HWU

During the period from Nov.23rd to Nov.26th, 2017, Dr. Julie Jie Wen, associate dean from School of Social Sciences and Psychology of Western Sydney University (WSU), and Prof. Sharon Josephine Moore from the Social Work Department of Australian College of Applied Psychology (ACAP), Navitas Group, had been on a visit to our university (HWU). On the afternoon of Nov.23rd, the welcome meeting was hosted by vice president Li Junbo. The deans of related departments also attended the meeting. On the evening of Nov.23rd and the morning of Nov.24th, Prof. Yang Lanying, president of the university, and Prof. Luo Ting, chair of the university council, respectively met the two experts and exchanged their views on women’s education and cooperation.

 

After the welcome meeting, Dr. Wen gave a lecture on the Innovative Training Model of the Tourism and Hotel Management Programs at WSU for the Tourism Management Department of HWU in Room 610 of Ruizhi Teaching Building. HWU plans to cooperate with WSU on tourism and hotel management programs by “2.5+1+0.5” cooperative education model. A pilot double degree education is going to be first conducted in Tourism Management Department.

 

Prof. Moore briefed on the program construction and development of social work at ACAP for the staff members and students from the Education and Law Department and discussed academic cooperation models with the staff. On the afternoon of Nov.25th, she met the leaders and staff from the Women/ Gender Research and Women’s Education Center to exchange their views on gender research methodology, women talents training and some women’s issues such as domestic violence, employment discrimination and labor protection processes.

On Nov.25th, two experts were invited to attend the Hunan Forum of Industry and Education of Elderly Care and Domestic Service (2017) organized by HWU. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed by vice president Chen Chiping and Dr. Wen from West Sydney University. Prof. Moore delivered a keynote speech on Aged Care: from Family and State to Market at the forum. She gave an introduction on the status quo and developing trend of the aged care in Australia, and held the view that the stakeholders of aged care industry should include the elderly person themselves, the family, the aged care social workers and the public sectors. She also suggested that Chinese people should carry on the tradition of aged care as a continuing first.
