An Online Exchange Meeting Is Held Between HWU and UNIMAS

In order to respond to the call of the “One belt, One Road” policy and promote the development of educational internationalization of HWU, on the morning of December 10th, 2021, an online exchange meeting was held between our university and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS). Prof. Dr. Puah Chin Hong, Vice President of UNIMAS and CEO UBS, Dr. Siti Mariam, Senior Manager of UBS, Dr. Florianna, Deputy Director UNIMAS Global and other five leaders from UNIMAS attended the meeting. He Jiangping, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, directors of the Academic Affairs Office, Scientific Research Office, International Affairs Office and Associate Dean of the Business Faculty from HWU attended the meeting hosted by Director Wang Yi from the International Affairs Office.

Deputy Secretary He Jiangping briefed on the history, education conception, talent training, and programs of our university. She also mentioned that Malaysia as China’s significant partner in Southeast Asia is also one of the country in the Belt and Road Initiative. The interlinked geography, close folks and kindred cultures have laid solid foundation for cooperation in higher education. In the post epidemic era, this online exchange meeting would certainly open a new journey of cooperation between the two universities.

Vice president Dr. Puah Chin Hong gave a brief introduction of UNIMAS and exchanged his ideas and strong cooperative intentions with our university. He also expressed his intention of wider and more profound exchange and cooperation in student exchange and customized training of PHD students.

After that, both universities had a more in-depth discussion and reached a preliminary cooperation intention in short-term international study, sino foreign cooperation in running schools, customized training of PhD students, staff exchange, and academic cooperation.

Universiti Malaysia Sarawak founded in 1992, was one of the Top 10 comprehensive universities in Malaysia, and one the 20 key public universities in Malaysia. The global QS ranking is about 1000. The student enrollment is 15451 and the amount of staff members is 2269. There are 7 research centers, 6 research institutions and 12 schools including Business School, School of Applied and Creative arts, School of Social Sciences and Humanities, School of Language and Communication, School of Computer Science and Information technology etc. UNIMAS offers undergraduate, master's and doctoral programs. The main teaching and research directions focus on many fields, such as biotechnology, resource science, information technology, social science development, natural resources and environmental management.
